ARTS AND CRAFTS

Reimagining a quirky home for a large family

We were appointed to create a phased masterplan for this unique early Victorian house in a south London conservation area. The house is full of historical detail including an imposing staircase, stained glass bay windows and moulded plasterwork.

The proposals included extending the house at the rear to the upper level garden to create a new garden room and three additional en-suite bedrooms and the remodelling of the kitchen and living accommodation at the lower entrance level.

The first completed phase has relocated the kitchen to the centre of the home forming a hub for family life. We also created a children’s den and a home office in the former kitchen.

A bespoke kitchen design was developed using the concept that each piece cabinetry would read as a separate elements of furniture within the space. A glazed screen drawing on the original leaded glazing of the windows was built to separate the kitchen from the hall.
