BUS DRIVER HUB
Award winning scheme and part of East London Transit Interchange
Warren Williams at Julian Cowie Architects
Warren was project architect for this award-winning building providing attractive bus driver facilities as part of a new transport interchange.
Architecturally the design is inspired by the tough industrial location and is wrapped in a double skin of perforated metal. These layers slide past each other to create a private retreat for the drivers inside and adds an intriguing “moire” visual effect to the oval shaped building.
The building uses a limited amount of energy through the compact plan form, high levels of insulation and airtightness together with controlled ventilation. A green roof helps promote biodiversity and reduces surface water run off.
