GREEN AND BLACK
More living space wrapped in glazed brick and charred timber
A young couple approached us to improve the living space of their cramped dark Edwardian ground floor flat and enhance the connection with their garden.
An open plan living space has been repositioned to the rear of the plan facing the garden, with the house expanded sideways and backwards.
The exterior of the extension is clad in charred larch chosen to provide a dark natural texture that contrasts with a glossy green glazed brick plinth. Bespoke timber windows, slim framed glazed doors and patent roof glazing frame views of an internal courtyard, the garden and the sky.
A tactile palette of internal materials echoes those of the exterior and include glazed green tiling, oiled black oak cupboards and light veined stone to the kitchen work-top. The timber structure of the new roof is exposed to add texture and rhythm to the space.
